How is Invisalign different from traditional braces?
Many patients will avoid talking to their dentist about straightening their teeth because they have a fear of needing metal bracket-and-wire braces. This is the more conventional way for patients to straighten the teeth and is a tried-and-true method that has been used for decades. However, Invisalign is a more attractive choice for many of our patients. Invisalign uses clear plastic aligner trays worn over the teeth to gently reposition them. In doing so, it provides the same results as metal braces but without covering the smile for months. Invisalign trays are difficult to discern when in the smile, which is how they received their name!
Who can benefit from Invisalign?
The best candidates for this particular treatment are teenagers and adults who have mild to moderate misalignment. This may include poor bite alignment, as Invisalign can address overbites, underbites, and crossbites. Patients with severe overcrowding or misalignment may instead benefit from traditional metal braces as they can manage more significant problems within the smile.
